METAPHOR – Smart inverse design for advanced integrated photonics using subwavelength metamaterials

Over the last decade we have demonstrated world-class high-performance devices in the silicon-on-insulator platform based on a deep physical understanding of optical metamaterials. In this project we will develop smart inverse design algorithms that incorporate this physical insight about silicon metamaterials; we will furthermore explore their application to the emerging lithium-niobate-on-insulator platform. These technological advances will enable us to tackle new challenges in multi-mode, multi-polarization light handling and optical quantum systems.
