Gonzalo Wangüemert Pérez holds a Telecommunications Engineering degree from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. In 1993, he joined the Department of Communication Engineering at the University of Málaga, initially as an associate professor and since 2017 as a full professor. He has had an extensive teaching career at the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, having supervised over 70 final degree projects (12 national and/or local awards). His research has mainly focused on the modeling, simulation, and design of integrated optical devices based on sub-wavelength periodic structures for applications in communications, sensing, and LiDAR, in the mid and near-infrared bands. Since joining UMA, he has continuously participated in more than 40 research projects and transfer contracts. He is co-author of 85 articles in indexed journals (73 Q1) and co-inventor of 9 patents, 3 of which have been licensed to spin-offs. In the last three editions, he has been recognized in the Stanford University ranking, which identifies the top 2% of the most influential researchers worldwide. He is co-founder of two technology-based companies Bioherent and AGPhotonics.
